REZUM / Urolift

At Sydney Urology Group we offer multiple procedural options in the urology armamentarium for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) therapy with each having their own indications, advantages and disadvantages.

These options include transurethral resection of prostate (TURP), Holmium laser enucleation of prostate (HoLEP), Rezūm, UroLift, robotic enucleation and prostate artery embolization (PAE).

Our approach to REZUM / Urolift

Rezūm is a fundamentally different way of applying thermal energy to treat lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to BPH. It works by injecting sterile water vapor into the adenoma of the prostate (figure 1 and figure 2). The heat from the water vapor disrupts prostate cell membranes and can be used for men with prostate volumes between 30 and 80 ml.

The main advantage of Rezūm is the ability to preserve all sexual function including erections and antegrade ejaculation. At Sydney Urology Group, Dr Leslie offers Rezūm treatment at the Mater Hospital in North Sydney.

Our experience with REZUM / Urolift

Urolift is a revolutionary, minimally invasive procedure that addresses BPH by lifting and holding the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way, thus relieving pressure on the urethra. Small implants are strategically placed to hold the prostate lobes apart, effectively improving urine flow.

UroLift offers quick relief, with many patients experiencing significant improvement in symptoms shortly after the procedure. Unlike some traditional treatments, UroLift has been shown to preserve sexual function without causing retrograde ejaculation.

Choosing the Right Treatment for You

Both Rezum and UroLift represent significant advancements in BPH management, offering effective alternatives to traditional surgical options. The choice between these treatments may depend on factors such as individual health, preferences, and the specific characteristics of the prostate. At Sydney Urology Group we offer a wide range of treatment options for BPH which will be discussed with you during your consultation.
