Pyelolithotomy is a surgical procedure to remove a large kidney stone from the renal pelvis.
Typically kidney stones are treated with telescopic surgery (ureteroscopy and laser, percutaneous nephrolithotomy), however, larger stones in the kidney occasionally require surgical removal.
Robotic surgery uses smaller incisions compared to traditional open surgery, leading to reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery. Open surgery is sometimes still required for complex cases. At Sydney Urology Group, Dr. Leslie and Dr. Mehan both offer robotic and open pyelolithtomy in the public and private hospital system.
At Sydney Urology Group we provide a multidisciplinary, patient-centred model of care with our purpose to improve the quality of life for our patients and for the friends and families who are supporting them.
