Robotic Prostatectomy

Robotic Prostatectomy is the surgical removal of the entire prostate gland for the treatment of localised prostate cancer.

The robotic platform allows for this procedure to be completed in a “keyhole” or minimally invasive fashion. The major benefits of this approach include:

• Less blood loss and lower risk of blood transfusion
• Reduction in post-operative pain and a quicker return to usual activities.
• Shorter hospital stay (typically 1-2 nights)
• Equivalent cancer control to traditional open techniques
• Excellent preservation of urinary continence
• Preservation of sexual function through nerve-sparing techniques (where appropriate)

Dr Leslie performs robotic surgery for his private patients at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and The Mater Hospital.
